How to price your class packs and memberships
A pricing guide for personal trainers and studios: how to structure class packs, single sessions, and memberships, and how to raise prices without losing clients.

Pricing quietly decides whether your business works. Set it from what the trainer down the road charges and you anchor yourself to their costs, not yours. The trainers who earn a sustainable living almost always start somewhere else: with the number they need, and a package structure simple enough that clients choose without hesitating.
Start with your number, not your competitor’s
Work out what you need to earn per week, then how many sessions you can realistically teach at your best. Divide one by the other and you have a floor for your session price. Now you are pricing from your own math instead of guessing against someone whose costs you cannot see.
Why packs beat pay-as-you-go
Selling single sessions means re-earning the booking every single week. Selling a pack — say ten classes — does two things at once: it gives you cash up front for cash flow, and it gives the client a commitment that keeps them coming back. Packs are better for both sides, which is why most successful studios lead with them.
Keep your pricing simple
Confused clients don’t buy. Offer a small, legible ladder: a single session, a pack, and maybe a monthly option — not a spreadsheet of permutations. Three clear choices convert far better than eight clever ones.
The best pricing page is one a client can understand in ten seconds. Every extra tier you add is another reason to hesitate.
Raising prices without losing clients
Prices should rise as you get better and busier. Give existing clients notice, grandfather your longest-standing regulars for a while if you like, and raise the rate for new clients first. Handled with a little warning, a price increase loses far fewer people than trainers fear.
- Price from the income you need, then sanity-check against the market.
- Lead with packs for commitment and up-front cash flow.
- Keep to a few clear tiers, and give notice before any increase.
Once your packs are set, keeping their balances accurate is what makes renewals happen on time — see automating payment reminders.
